PROJECT 1

Company X, USA

Issues: Company X is a fully operating company growing silicon monocrystalline to produce silicon wafers. Company X, has an operated silicon defect test laboratory.

The silicon defect test lab is equipped with the metrology tools and equipment,

The silicon defect test lab was provided with the standard operating procedures,

The silicon defect test lab has a set of technicians,

The silicon defect test lab has an engineer, and

All technicians and engineers have been trained.

 

However, the silicon defect test lab is not able to produce correct result and the results are inconsistent. The silicon defect results cannot be trusted. The silicon crystal engineer and process device engineer were not able to use the silicon defect results to produce good quality silicon wafers and device.

 

Something is just not right. The company could not find out what the real issues were, let alone on how to solve it. This is the part where I came in to understand the issues, to troubleshoot the issues, to plan a specific Design or Experiment, to come up with a project timeline, and eventually to overcome the issues.

 

Results after my consultations/leadership:

The silicon defect test lab now produce reliable results and consistent results independently with increased quality in excess of 67% improvement.

PROJECT 2

Company Y, Taiwan

 

Issues: A silicon mono crystalline company Y (vendor) is growing and supplying silicon wafers to a solar cell device maker (client). However, the solar cell device company complained upon using the vendor’s wafer, the solar cell yields performance are horrible compared to other silicon vendors. The solar cell device maker wanted to terminate the contract with the silicon grower vendor.

I came in and evaluated the technology capabilities of both parties: Silicon company (vendor) and solar cell maker (clients).

 

 

Results after my consultations/leadership:

I designed engineering program which has improved both vendor and client’s performance. The project has driven silicon solar cell wafer quality from 30% to 95%.

PROJECT 3 

Company Z, South Korea and China

Issues: A silicon mono crystalline company (vendor) is growing and supplying Silicon wafers to a solar cell device maker (client). The yield of solar cell efficiencies are inconsistent. Few batches have good yield and other few batches have poor yield. The vendor and client are not able to identify what went wrong or where the poor efficiency came from. Is it from the silicon vendor? Or is it from the solar cell device maker (client)?

 

I came in and evaluated the technology capabilities of both parties. 

 

Results after my consultations/leadership:

I found out the issues came from both parties. I developed Design of Experience to pin point where the issues came from. Under my direction, both parties were able to do process improvement at both end. Upon completion of the project, the yield is excellent and consistent.

Our Past and Present Engagement: Transfer R&D technology, improvise R&D process for commercialization, setting up metrology platform, assist clients to identify what defect test method applicable for them, improve yield performance, first hand on-site experience to assess company technology capabilities, first hand experience to analyze Silicon data worldwide.
